ISO 45001 / OHSAS 18001 - UK Health & Safety Management in Kent & London

What is ISO 45001 / OHSAS 18001?

ISO 45001 / OHSAS 18001 are internationally recognised standards for Occupational Health and Safety Management.

On the 12th March 2018 the ISO 45001:2018 Occupational Health and Safety Management standard was published which over the next three years will replace OHSAS 18001. The ISO 45001 standard has been written to the same framework as the ISO 9001:2015 and 14001:2015 Management System Standards.

Both standards provides a framework that any organisation can use to identify and effectively control its’ occupational health and safety risks.

Achieving compliance to ISO 45001 / OHSAS 18001 will typically involve identifying the most significant health and safety hazards in the business and taking appropriate action to manage these.

All health and safety legislation applicable to a business and its’ activities must also be identified, documented and complied with.

Certification to ISO 45001 / OHSAS 18001 demonstrates to all stakeholders of a UK business that your health and safety management system has been independently assessed and conforms to international standards for health and safety practice in the workplace.

The Implementation Process

A typical implementation time frame to certification for a single ISO 45001 / OHSAS 18001 management system consists of 6 day visits over approximately 6 months.

2SB will however always adapt our approach to meet our clients’ needs.

We can reduce implementation time frames if the client requires certification urgently and we also manage our visits to best fit with your business operations. This could involve dividing our visits into a series of half days or only visiting the site during your quieter periods.

We will agree an implementation programme with you from the start and will provide all the guidance and resources necessary to achieve certification.

More Than One Standard?

Increasingly 2SB are seeing more businesses request the implementation of combined management systems to cover two or more standards.

Summarised below are typical implementation time frames for management systems covering the ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 / OHSAS 18001 standards.

Obart Pumps in Kent

2SB worked alongside UK based Obart Pumps to implement a triple standard management system. Motivation for the system was two-fold. The Managing Director wanted certification to officially confirm that Obart was a well-run business capable of working with any organisation. Pressure then also started to mount from their suppliers and customers. Over a course of 8 months 2SB worked to provide Obart Pumps with all the necessary resources required by the business and have left Obart with a truly integrated management system.
