Marketing ISO Certifications

Why should a marketing business obtain ISO certification?

Marketing companies work with a wide array of clients, many of whom may have specific supply chain prerequisites. Often clients will want assurances that you have the processes in place that will deliver consistent results for their business. ISO 9001 helps you to enhance your internal processes and demonstrate this to clients.

ISO 27001 is the gold standard for information security and marketing organisations are increasingly using this to demonstrate they can handle personal data and client intellectual property with sufficient controls.

Obtaining ISO Certification is made simpler by using an ISO Consultant who can guide you through the process. At 2SB we work with marketing companies like yours to secure the required certifications in a valuable and time efficient manner.

ISO 9001 for Business Processes

ISO 9001 is a business management tool. Its ultimate purpose is to ensure high levels of consistent customer service. The framework can help marketing companies evaluate the combination of processes that must occur to deliver impactful campaigns. From defining the scope and specification of works, setting marketing goals and KPIs, monitoring results, and using design aspects to add impact to delivery, a well implemented quality management system will help these run together more smoothly.

ISO 9001 encourages businesses to consider their own strategic direction, the internal and external factors that can influence their ability to reach their goals, and the risks and opportunities that exist. These useful tools help formulate your own business and marketing strategy.

2SB have helped marketing agencies implement better systems that have given our clients:

  • Better oversight of their processes to be able to identify a more consistent customer journey
  • Better application of contracts and statements of work to capture the client brief
  • Tools to identify the root cause of any issues that arise

ISO 27001 for Information Security

ISO 27001 is becoming increasingly wide spread among marketing agencies. Agencies are often multifaceted, including development work on websites and applications, alongside marketing activities. You could be handling large volumes of personal information when delivering email marketing campaigns or hold sensitive strategic marketing information that gives your client a competitive edge.

Regardless of the activities being undertaken, we have found that clients are asking for the assurance from marketing agencies that they can safeguard their information. ISO 27001 certification, means you are independently audited on an annual basis and can display your credentials to your current and prospective clients.

Companies we have worked with have reported the following benefits:

  • Improved control over employee access to client accounts
  • Easier control of assets - the ability to track what the company owns and its use
  • Greater confidence in their ability to meet the requirements of GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018

Why use 2SB?

One of the core principles at 2SB, is to become the business for which we are working. All of our consultants have the ability to quickly understand the culture of the business they are working with.

The ISO standards are a guideline of good practice - the skill of a consultant is knowing how this can be applied in practice in a way that is both sympathetic to a business, but also challenges it to improve. We only succeed when you can see tangible benefits to the work.

We cannot achieve improvements alone, and your input as a business is a critical success factor. We ensure that we engage with employees at every level of the business. This means we have to be dynamic in the way we work, and we challenge ourselves to make business system improvement tangible and meaningful for everyone in your business.

It is our commitment to:

  • Really understand your business and make decisions which are right for you
  • Give you tools and our experience to deliver meaningful results
  • Work within all levels of your business - making systems and processes real and tangible

How long does it take to get ISO certified?

For any single management system including ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 27001, ISO 45001, a typical time frame for implementation is 3-6 months.

Implementation time frames (i.e. building your management system prior to the audit) are as follows:

ISO 9001 – 3 to 6 months
ISO 14001 – 3 to 6 months
ISO 27001 – 3 to 6 months
ISO 45001 – 3 to 6 months
ISO 9001 + ISO 14001 – 4 to 8 months
ISO 9001 + ISO 27001 – 4 to 8 months
ISO 9001 + ISO 14001 + ISO 45001 – 5 to 10 months
ISO 9001 + ISO 14001 + ISO 27001 – 5 to 10 months

This can vary depending on how effective you are at implementing the management system's requirements and the number of certifications being acquired.

We have completed implementations in shorter time frames however from our experience this means internally you must prioritise the ISO implementation with a central member of staff.

In addition to the timeframes above, you should allow 1-3 months for the certification process (i.e. stage 1 and stage 2 audits) and around 2 further weeks to receive your certificate.

It's beneficial to have the advice of a consultant when doing this but you can do it alone if you have the time and resource needed to learn the standard and its requirements.
